AC Repair in Glendale, AZ — Never Fear, Freddy’s Here!

Question 1

Why is my AC unit leaking water?

Answer

If your AC unit is leaking water, it’s usually caused by a problem with the system’s condensate drainage. Your air conditioner removes humidity from the air, and that moisture normally drains outside through a condensate line.

Common Reasons an AC Leaks Water

Clogged condensate drain line
This is the most common cause. Dirt, algae, or debris can block the drain line and cause water to back up.

Dirty air filter
A clogged filter can restrict airflow, causing the evaporator coil to freeze. When it melts, excess water can overflow the drain pan.

Frozen evaporator coil
Low refrigerant or airflow issues can cause the coil to freeze and later drip water.

Damaged or rusted drain pan
Older systems may have cracked or rusted drain pans that allow water to leak.

Disconnected drain line
Sometimes the drain line can come loose and allow water to leak near the indoor unit.

What You Should Do

If you notice water around your AC system, it’s best to have it checked before it causes water damage or mold issues.

At Freddy’s AC, we can quickly diagnose the cause and get your system draining properly again.

Question 4

What size AC unit do I need for my home?

Answer

What size AC unit do I need for my home?

A simple rule many contractors use is the 400 square feet per ton rule. This means that for every 400 square feet of living space, you typically need about 1 ton of cooling capacity.

Example AC Sizing Guide

• 1 ton – about 400 sq ft
• 2 ton – about 800 sq ft
• 3 ton – about 1,200 sq ft
• 4 ton – about 1,600 sq ft
• 5 ton – about 2,000 sq ft

However, this is only a general guideline. The correct size can also depend on:

✔ Insulation
✔ Ceiling height
✔ Window exposure to the sun
✔ Home layout
✔ Ductwork condition
✔ Arizona heat load

At Freddy’s AC, we help homeowners choose the right size system for their home to ensure proper cooling, efficiency, and long system life.

Question 5

Why is my AC unit running but not cooling my home?

Answer

Why is my AC unit running but not cooling my home?

If your AC is running but your home isn’t getting cooler, there are a few common issues that could be causing the problem.

Common Reasons Your AC Isn’t Cooling

Dirty air filter
A clogged filter can restrict airflow and prevent your system from cooling properly.

Low refrigerant
If your system is low on refrigerant due to a leak, it won’t be able to remove heat from your home effectively.

Dirty condenser coils
When outdoor coils are covered in dirt or debris, the system can’t release heat properly.

Frozen evaporator coil
Poor airflow or refrigerant issues can cause the coil to freeze and stop cooling.

Thermostat issues
Incorrect thermostat settings or a faulty thermostat can prevent proper cooling.

What You Can Check First

✔ Make sure your thermostat is set to cool
✔ Replace your air filter if it’s dirty
✔ Check your breaker panel
✔ Make sure the outdoor unit is running

If the issue continues, it’s best to have a professional diagnose the system.

At Freddy’s AC, we can quickly find the problem and provide honest repair options to get your home comfortable again.

Question 6

Why is my AC unit making strange noises?

Answer

Why is my AC unit making strange noises?

If your AC unit is making unusual noises, it could be a sign that something inside the system needs attention. Different sounds can point to different issues.

Common AC Noises and What They Mean

🔧 Banging or clanking
This could mean a loose or broken part inside the compressor or fan assembly.

⚙️ Buzzing
Often caused by electrical issues, a failing capacitor, or loose wiring.

🎵 Squealing or screeching
Usually related to a worn-out belt or motor bearing.

🌬️ Rattling
Could be loose screws, debris in the outdoor unit, or parts starting to wear out.

💧 Hissing
This may indicate a refrigerant leak or pressure issue.

What You Should Do

If your AC starts making strange noises, it’s best to turn the system off and have it inspected before the issue becomes a bigger repair.

At Freddy’s AC, we can quickly diagnose the problem and provide honest repair options to get your system running smoothly again.

Question 7

How long should an AC unit last in Arizona?

Answer

How long should an AC unit last in Arizona?

In Arizona’s extreme heat, most air conditioning systems typically last 10–15 years. Because systems run much longer during the summer months, they experience more wear and tear than in cooler climates.

Factors That Affect AC Lifespan

• Regular maintenance – Systems that receive yearly service often last longer
• Filter changes – Replacing filters regularly helps prevent strain on the system
• Installation quality – Proper installation can add years to a unit’s life
• Usage – Arizona systems often run many hours a day during the summer

Signs Your AC May Be Near the End

• Frequent repairs
• Higher energy bills
• Poor cooling performance
• System is 12–15+ years old

With proper maintenance, some systems can last longer, but in Arizona many homeowners start considering replacement around the 12–15 year mark.

If you’re unsure whether your system should be repaired or replaced, Freddy’s AC can inspect it and walk you through your options.

Question 8

How often should I replace my AC filter?

Answer

How often should I replace my AC filter?

For most homes, it’s a good idea to replace your air filter every month, especially in Arizona where air conditioners run frequently and dust levels can be higher.

Changing your filter monthly helps:

✔ Improve airflow and cooling performance
✔ Keep your indoor air cleaner
✔ Lower energy bills
✔ Prevent strain on your AC system
✔ Extend the life of your equipment

A clean filter is one of the simplest and most important things you can do to keep your AC running properly.

If you ever need help with maintenance or service, Freddy’s AC is here to help.

Question 9

Should I repair or replace my AC unit?

Answer

It depends on a few key factors like the age of your system, the cost of the repair, and how well your AC is performing.

When Repair Might Be the Best Option

Repairing your AC usually makes sense if:

• The unit is less than 8–10 years old
• The repair is minor (capacitor, contactor, thermostat, etc.)
• The system has not needed many repairs before
• The unit is still cooling your home efficiently

When Replacement Might Be the Better Choice

Replacing your system may be the smarter investment if:

• Your AC is 10–15+ years old
• The repair cost is very expensive (compressor, major leaks, etc.)
• Your energy bills are increasing every summer
• The system is breaking down frequently

A common guideline many homeowners use is the “$5,000 rule.”
Multiply the age of the unit by the repair cost.

If the number is over $5,000, replacement may make more sense.

Example:
12-year-old unit × $500 repair = $6,000 → replacement may be worth considering.

Question 10

How often should my AC be serviced?

Answer

How often should my AC be serviced?

Your air conditioning system should be serviced at least once a year, but in hot climates like Arizona it’s recommended to have two maintenance visits per year—one before the cooling season and one before the heating season.

Regular maintenance helps:

• Improve system efficiency
• Prevent unexpected breakdowns
• Extend the life of your equipment
• Lower energy bills
• Keep your home comfortable during extreme heat

At Freddy’s AC, our Freddy Care Maintenance Program includes two visits per year to keep your system running at peak performance.

Question 11

How much does an AC service cost?

Answer

How much does an AC service cost?

The cost of AC service can vary depending on the issue and the type of service needed. In the Phoenix area, a typical service call or diagnostic visit usually ranges from about $75 to $150, while routine maintenance or tune-ups often cost around $75 to $200.

Repairs can vary depending on the problem. Simple fixes like a clogged drain line or capacitor may cost a few hundred dollars, while larger repairs can cost more depending on parts and labor.

At Freddy’s AC, we believe in straightforward pricing and options, so you always know the cost before any work is done.

Question 12

Why is my ac not turning on?

Answer

Why is my AC not turning on?

If your air conditioner isn’t turning on, there could be several common reasons:

• Thermostat issues – The thermostat may have dead batteries or be set incorrectly.
• Tripped breaker – Your AC system may have tripped the circuit breaker in your electrical panel.
• Clogged air filter – A very dirty filter can cause the system to shut down to protect itself.
• Faulty capacitor or electrical component – These parts help start your system and can fail over time.
• Drain line safety switch – If your condensate drain line is clogged, the system may shut off to prevent water damage.

Sometimes the fix is simple, but other times it requires a professional diagnostic.

At Freddy’s AC, we can quickly diagnose the issue and provide honest, straightforward repair options to get your system running again.

Question 13

Why is my ac blowing warm air?

Answer

If your AC is blowing warm air, there could be a few common reasons:

• Thermostat settings – It may be set to “fan” instead of “cool.”
• Dirty air filter – A clogged filter can restrict airflow and cause cooling issues.
• Low refrigerant – This can prevent your system from properly cooling the air.
• Frozen evaporator coil – Often caused by airflow issues or low refrigerant.
• Electrical or capacitor problems – Your outdoor unit may not be running properly.

Sometimes the issue can be simple, but other times it requires a professional diagnosis.

At Freddy’s AC, we can quickly diagnose the problem and give you straightforward repair options so you can decide what works best for your home.
